What the rules require
The Gambling Commission has tightened how UK casinos handle spending limits. Casinos must now:
- prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and make it easy to review and change;
- remind you every six months to review your account and transaction history;
- let you set limits in your own amounts, not just from a dropdown;
- link to limit settings clearly from the homepage and deposit page;
- act immediately on any request to lower a limit.

What counts as a deposit limit
From 30 June 2026, every online operator must offer a deposit limit based only on the money you pay into your account over a set period. Only that kind of limit can be called a "deposit limit". Casinos can still offer other limits, such as loss limits, but they must be named differently so you know what you're setting.
How to choose your limit
- Decide what you can afford to lose each month without affecting bills, savings or plans.
- Set a monthly deposit limit at or below that amount.
- Add a daily or weekly limit if you tend to play in bursts.
- Use reality checks or session time limits if you lose track of time.
- Review it when you get the six-monthly reminder.
Deposit limits and bonuses
A deposit limit doesn't stop you claiming a welcome offer, but it does stop you depositing more than you planned to chase a bigger bonus. Set the limit first, then choose an offer that fits inside it. Our casino bonuses hub shows the deposit each offer needs.
