The successful launch of the R4i Gold lead to the launch of several other firmware fixes by different corresponding teams. The other teams like R4i SDHC, AceKard and even the Supercard team. They quickly decided to release their own firmware update. These updates would correspond to the DSONEi that is manufactured by the Supercard team. The Supercard and its Supercard DSONEi was the very first flashcart that left a huge impact after the R4i Gold. The reason for this large impact was because the Supercard DSONEi not only did not need ay external hardware or additional tool for updates just like the R4i Gold but also did not need any DSi console for updates at all. No DSi console was required for the update, not even for the lower firmware versions like 1.4 or even DSi Lite.
The R4i Gold needed no external tool for updates but it certainly required the DSi console. It was updated from within the DSi console and saved the users the hassle of doing it themselves. The updates were regular as well as done automatically as per requirement of the update. The Supercared DSNOEi went a step ahead of the R4i Gold. It not only had its own built in update feature but also made sure that nothing but a PC and a firmware writer was required for the updating of the firmware. This was indeed a brilliant feature. The firmware writer need not be bought separately. It came as a part and parcel of the Supercard DSNOEi package. The R4i Gold needs a DSi with the firmware that is lower than the 1.4 version or the DSi Lite for its update for the firmware itself.
The AceKard 2i created by the AceKard team also needs a DSi with the firmware that is lower than the 1.4 version for the firmware update. The Supercard DSNOEi hence is ahead of all the teams including the brilliant R4i Gold team in this respect. The R4i SDHC does not have built in update feature at all nor does it have the firmware upgradable feature that was part of the later and more advanced hardware version. This advanced version was the R4i SDHC 1.4. December 2009 had seen the launch of a pre-version of R4i Gold created by the R4i SDHC team. This was their version of the R4i Gold and was created because the popularity of R4i SDHC was slowly simpering. So, they decided to create R4i Gold. The official website of this version of R4i Gold was www.r4i-gold.eu and the website went all out in marketing and promoting their latest product.
There was small amount of success achieved by this version of the R4i Gold. The success ended after a month. In septemer 2010, Nintendo, decided to release it’s own firmware after the August 2010 release and this version was 1.4.1/1.4.2 which basically blocked all other popular flashcarts at the time. This included the R4i Gold and the R4i SDHC 1.4. DSi firmware 1.4.1, Supercard DSTWO and some others were unaffected.
